- This Christmas we are fundraising to plant 100 more trees around the the 16 acre plot in the Laayoune refugee camp in the Sahara desert to create a barrier and protect the crops from the harsh desert winds.
- This fundraiser is supporting the work of the ‘Growing Hope Sahrawi’ vegetable project in the Sahrawi refugee camps near Tindouf.
- The farm is going from strength to strength and there is now a large reservoir to store the water from the well and a second polytunnel to grow vegetables. You can see the progress in this video.
- Phase 5 is to plant 500 trees around the vegetable farm.
- So far this year from the Big Ramble and other fundraisers we have raised enough to buy 200 trees which are being planted this autumn.
Each tree costs £25 and you can buy one as a gift or for yourself.
You will receive a homemade decoration for your own tree to remind that you have a tree in the Sahara Desert. You will be able to follow the progress of your tree for years to come.
